This week, Wizards of the Coast announced a major change to the Magic: The Gathering booster formula: God Packs are coming to every Magic Multiverse set starting with *Nauctis: The Sunken Realm* on February 5, 2027 — and the company says none of the changes come with a price increase.
What Is a God Pack?
A God Pack is a booster where every nonbasic card is a rare or mythic rare. Wizards is introducing them with *Nauctis: The Sunken Realm*, the first Magic set of 2027, and continuing with every Magic Multiverse set after it (*Universes Beyond* sets are expected to follow in 2028).

In Booster Packs, 1 in every 1,000 packs will be a God Pack containing 14 rare or mythic rare cards plus a celebration card:
- 1 God Pack celebration card
- 10 non-foil rare and/or mythic rare cards
- 2 non-foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards
- 2 traditional foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards

God Packs in Collector Boosters ramp up the excitement even more: 1 in every 300 Collector Boosters contains:
- 1 God Pack celebration card
- 1 foil land
- 3 foil default-frame rare and/or mythic rare cards
- 3 non-foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards
- 5 foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards
The five foil Booster Fun slots in Collector God Packs are what Wizards called the “foil fancy slot” on WeeklyMTG — five of them instead of one. The company notes it is improbable, but that slot could hypothetically hold multiple headliner cards.
Japan Showcase Cards Come to Booster Packs
Previously exclusive to Collector Boosters, Japan Showcase cards will now be crackable in the wildcard slot of regular Booster Packs in traditional foil. At the same time, Wizards is increasing the drop rates of foil rare and mythic rare cards across Booster Packs, so the odds of opening one of the more exciting cards have gone up.
Play Boosters are also getting renamed: moving forward, they are simply called Booster Packs.
What’s Leaving Boosters
Foil common and uncommon cards are being removed from Booster Packs, and Wizards is no longer guaranteeing a foil card in every pack. If you do open a foil in a Booster Pack, it will be a rare or mythic rare.
Collector Boosters are losing two commons and one uncommon from their foil slots, and those three cards will not be replaced. Wizards says it is keeping some number of foil common and uncommon cards in Collector Boosters, since they will no longer be available in Booster Packs.
Wizards frames the trade-offs as making room — in both printing capacity and player psychology — for the cards players actually get excited about, and confirms the changes carry no adjustments to prices.
God Packs in Limited Play
Amid player concerns about Draft and Sealed, Wizards says God Packs opened in Limited events should be removed and replaced with a normal Booster Pack free of charge. While store owners don’t need to follow this, it is highly recommended, and the Pro Tour and other organized play events like Regional Championships will follow these rules.
