Magic: The Gathering is charting a course into Star Trek, its upcoming Universes Beyond set that merges classic tabletop gameplay with one of science fiction’s most recognizable universes. The set launches on November 13, 2026.
A Franchise-Spanning Release
The set is a tribute to Star Trek’s 60th anniversary, with design emphasis placed on the franchise’s legacy, optimism, and sense of exploration. The set was made by Star Trek fans for Star Trek fans, and it draws from every era of the franchise so players can build decks around familiar characters, ships, and story moments.

One headline feature is a set of signed headliner cards. Seven Star Trek actors individually signed these cards, and each one was hand-signed after printing before being randomly inserted into Collector Boosters. There are about 250 copies of each signed card, making them some of the rarest items in the release.
Set Structure and Legalities

The core set uses the code TRK, the Commander set uses TRC, and Stardates cards use SDS. The main set is legal in all formats, while the Commander and Stardates cards are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage, with individual cards also legal where they already exist in other formats. Play Boosters contain cards from TRK and SDS, and those cards can be used in Draft and Sealed when opened from Play Boosters.

The release is built around a large product ecosystem rather than a single booster line. Wizards presents the set through boosters, Commander decks, bundles, beginner products, scene boxes, and organized-play promos, giving collectors and players multiple ways to enter the set. That breadth is a major part of the announcement’s pitch, since it is clearly designed to support both casual fans and more competitive Magic players.
Booster Fun and Special Treatments

The set’s special treatments are a major feature of the reveal. There are signed headliner cards, Stardates cards, LCARS frame cards, LCARS shock lands, classic Enterprise cards, scene cards, and schematic-style Spacecraft promos. Each treatment reflects a different visual language from Star Trek, ranging from futuristic interface design to retro poster art.

Stardates cards reprint recognizable Magic cards with Star Trek-themed artwork, and there are 30 different versions in the set. Non-foil versions appear in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, while traditional foil versions are exclusive to Collector Boosters. LCARS frame cards and LCARS shock lands also highlight the computer-interface aesthetic, with 29 LCARS frame cards and 10 LCARS shock lands listed in the source.

Classic Enterprise cards lean into the older Star Trek look with a painted, textured style inspired by vintage posters. There are 24 classic Enterprise cards, available in non-foil and traditional foil form in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, with surge foil versions limited to Collector Boosters.

The set also includes 25 scene cards and two Scene Boxes, each of which contains six traditional foil new-to-Magic scene cards plus art cards and a display easel.
Commander Decks and Bundles

The Commander lineup includes four decks: Federation Fleet, Landing Party, Klingon Fury, and We Are the Borg. Each one comes as a ready-to-play 100-card Commander deck with a traditional foil face commander, 99 non-foil cards including 32 new-to-Magic cards, 10 double-sided tokens, a reference card, and a deck box. The Collectors Edition versions keep the same structure but upgrade the cards to surge foil.
Play Boosters are priced at $6.99, Collector Boosters at $37.99, Commander Decks at $74.99, Collector’s Edition Commander Decks at $159.99, Bundles at $69.99, Beam Me Up Bundles at $99.99, Beginner Boxes at $34.99, and Draft Night at $119.99. It also lists the Scene Box price at $41.99.

Bundles are built for players who want a mix of boosters, lands, and accessories, while Beam Me Up Bundles add a Collector Booster and two Beam Me Up Bundle promo cards. The Beginner Box is aimed at newcomers, offering themed Jumpstart half-decks, tutorial decks, playmats, guides, dice, and a reference booklet. Draft Night is tailored for draft-style events, combining Play Boosters, a Collector Booster, lands, tokens, and a draft insert.
Mechanics

The Assimilate mechanic gives you control of a creature or puts a creature card onto the battlefield under your control with a +1/+1 counter. It also becomes a Borg artifact creature and loses its other creature types.

Choose a Dilemma happens whenever a player chooses one or more modes for a spell or ability, Federation counts how many creature types among non-borg you control and scales an ability’s power accordingly.

Spacecrafts start as an artifact and gain abilities depending on the number of charge counters that you add to them, ideally using Station.
Events, Promos, and Timing
Prerelease events will run from November 6 to 12, the MTG Arena release is set for November 10, and the global tabletop release lands on November 13. The schedule also includes MagicCon Amsterdam in July, STLV Trek to Vegas in August, MagicCon Atlanta and World Championship 32 in November, and later Commander Party and Magic Presents To Boldly Go windows.

Organized play gets its own set of rewards too. Wizards Play Network Commander events will distribute either a Highly Illogical promo card or a Munitions Enthusiast promo card, while Magic Presents To Boldly Go participants receive a traditional foil Solemn Simulacrum promo card. Standard Showdown winners during the season will receive Burst Lightning or another later-revealed promo card, with an additional Star Trek-themed promo planned for a future Spotlight Series event.
